LTLL has invested a large amount of money in the last three seasons to improve our fields. Safe and playable fields are paramount. The field renovations at City Field, Ridgewood, and Timber Trails have improved drainage dramatically. It takes all of us to keep the fields playable and safe throughout the season.
The field maintenance director will work on the fields with our SmithCo grooming machine once a week, fix any major issues, and paint foul lines where applicable.
Each field also has a “Field Captain” that helps on day-to-day issues and is point of contact (Weekly infield mowing, edging, monitoring storage bins, etc)
Pre/post-duties include, but not limited to:
- Get out and put away bases (NEW BASES IN 2026 at RIDGEWOOD, TIMBER TRAILS, HIGHLANDS, COUNTRYSIDE FIELDS, and CITY FIELD)
- Drag field before and/or afterwards (Dragging is not required at Highlands/Countryside NE). Field maintenance director will work the all-dirt infields with the SmithCo machine on a regular basis.
POINT OF EMPHASIS: Keep infield material on the infield and not grass. Lips in the grass are created by the infield material working into the grass over time
- Chalk batters box and line fields
POINT OF EMPHASIS: Batters box template, string line, and all necessary chalking materials are in the storage bins. T-Ball does not chalk the box or lines.
- Place base plugs in after games
POINT OF EMPHASIS: If the plugs are not put back in after practices/games, the ground sleaves will have to be dug out next time.
- Lock bins after use and put key back in lock box
- Taking tarps off and putting them back on
- Roll tarps and put off to the side during games and practices. Place back on mound and home plate after games. If left on grass for even a little while, it will kill the grass.
- Hodgkins does ask us to set portable mound up and lean against fence after games, chalk fields, put bases out and put away, turn off lights after 7:30 game, and lock bins. There is a Hodgkins bin and an LTLL bin for supplies.
- Pleasant Dale does not ask us to do anything pre- or post-game in regard to field maintenance.
POINT OF EMPHASIS: Rule of thumb for post-game is "LEAVE THE FIELD BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT." All trash needs to be removed and thrown away after every game and practice.
